Tanned by hand using non-industrial methods, using emulsified fats, woodsmoke and days of physical softening and preening. Hair has been hand picked of debris, washed twice, and brushed in some areas to clean. This said, the animal was alive and lived outside and if you are looking for a perfectly sterile hide like at ikea without any sign of it’s life, than this hide is not for you. There will be some remnant debris in this hide. That said, these hides pick up debris when being used so you will be tending them for years to come.

price is based on a few factors. I’ve been tanning for over 10 years and have spent thousands of hours dedicated to the craft without monetizing it and simply to deepen the relation to the process. It also is the value I put on the time it took to scrape, wash, soften, smoke and clean the hair which was countless hours of work that surpasses the cost listed. This particular hide is not tanned with an extract which some folks use (and even I have tried!) and fat and smoke tanned hides take longer and are more work, generally.
